Popular Lagos socialite and nightlife entrepreneur, Pretty Mike, has disclosed that despite having many girlfriends, he remains eager to settle down and start a family, describing marriage as one of life’s greatest achievements.
The businessman, whose real name is Mike Eze-Nwalie Nwogu, also opened up on his personal life, business journey, legal battles, and future ambitions in an interview.
Speaking about relationships, Pretty Mike said he looks forward to finding a wife and raising children, even though the growing number of failed marriages around him has become a source of concern. According to him, witnessing the collapse of several unions among friends and associates has made many unmarried men cautious about taking the next step.
The nightlife entrepreneur, known for his headline-grabbing appearances at weddings and social events, said he believes true compatibility goes beyond physical attraction. Rather than focusing on appearance, he said he values character, attitude, upbringing and personality when considering a life partner, insisting that these qualities are more important for building a lasting marriage.
Pretty Mike’s comments came as he reflected on his rise from a privileged family background into Nigeria’s nightlife industry. He revealed that his late father, Dr Basil Nwalie, was a respected telecommunications pioneer and the founding president of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON).
Although he grew up in a comfortable home and studied at the University of Texas in the United States, he returned to Nigeria with the ambitions of building a career and contributing to the country’s development.
His first attempt at working in the corporate sector ended abruptly after only a few days, prompting him to pursue entrepreneurship. He later partnered with his uncle to establish Club Uno in Ikeja, a venture that became one of Lagos’ most recognised nightlife brands.
He subsequently played a key role in developing Cubana Night Club in Victoria Island before launching his own nightclub, Proxy.
According to him, many of the controversial stunts that have made him a social media sensation were carefully designed to keep his brand relevant in a highly competitive industry. He explained that the publicity-generating appearances, which often spark debate online, were intended to ensure that his name remained in public conversations while distinguishing him from other nightlife personalities.
Addressing some of his most talked-about stunts, Pretty Mike said many carried deeper social messages that were often overlooked by critics.
He cited his appearance with pregnant women at a public event, explaining that the experience exposed him to the challenges faced by vulnerable and abandoned expectant mothers. He said the encounter changed his perspective and highlighted the need for greater empathy towards women facing difficult circumstances.
The socialite also revisited the 2025 raid on Proxy Night Club by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), describing the experience as one of the most difficult periods of his life.
He maintained that neither he nor his business was involved in illegal drug activities and noted that the court eventually discharged and acquitted him of all charges. The closure of the nightclub for nine months, he said, resulted in losses running into billions of naira due to legal expenses, damaged facilities, and lost business opportunities.
Despite the setback, Pretty Mike said Proxy has undergone a major transformation, with more than N100 million invested in renovations and upgrades. He added that the nightclub has resumed operations with fresh concepts, entertainment offerings, and events aimed at restoring customer confidence and strengthening its position within Lagos’ nightlife scene.
Beyond nightlife, he disclosed that he has interests in construction, real estate, and brand endorsements, while also benefiting from family investments.
Looking ahead, Pretty Mike said his focus remains on expanding his business interests, creating unique entertainment experiences and eventually building a successful family life.
