The family of the late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has announced plans for his final burial rites, with interment scheduled for June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State.
In a statement released on Monday through the actor’s official Instagram page, the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family said the late actor would be honoured with a series of funeral activities involving family members, friends, colleagues, and fans.
The family described him as a man remembered for his warmth, generosity, laughter, and deep devotion to both God and the people around him.
According to the announcement signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke, the family also expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support received from Nigerians and admirers across the world since the actor’s passing on May 11, 2026.
“The overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, messages, visits, calls, and strength shown to the family during this painful period has been truly humbling,” the statement read.
As part of the funeral programme, a service of songs will take place on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., with guests expected to attend dressed in white.
A wake-keep has also been scheduled for June 17 at the family residence in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State, ahead of the funeral service and interment on June 18. The burial ceremony will be followed by a reception at Mary Slessor School in Amanagwu Village.
The family had earlier disclosed that Ekubo died at Evercare Hospital after complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer. They described his illness as a brief but courageous battle fought with strength and dignity.
Born in Port Harcourt and originally from Arochukwu in Abia State, Ekubo rose to fame after emerging first runner-up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria pageant. His success in modelling later opened doors for a thriving acting career in Nollywood, where he became known for his charming screen presence and versatility.
Over the years, he featured in several notable productions, including ‘Weekend Getaway’, ‘The Bling Lagosians’, ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, and ‘Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story’.
His death triggered an outpouring of tributes across social media, with colleagues, celebrities, and fans remembering him for his talent, humility, and impact on the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Several public figures, including politicians and entertainers, have continued to pay tribute to the late actor, describing his death as a painful loss to Nollywood and the country’s creative community.
