Carter Efe opens up on relationship with Wizkid, says issue lies with singer’s personality

Content creator and streamer Carter Efe has spoken publicly about his relationship with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, revealing that while he holds deep admiration for the singer’s music and artistic influence, he has issues with his personality and perceived lack of reciprocity.

Efe made the comments during an interview with BBC Pidgin, where he described Wizkid as one of the artists he respects most in the music industry. He praised the singer’s creativity, sound, and consistency, stressing that his appreciation for Wizkid’s craft remains unchanged despite personal grievances.

However, he noted that his concern is not with Wizkid’s music but with their personal relationship. According to him, he has shown consistent support for the singer over the years, but he feels that same energy has not been returned.

Brandspur Entertainment Desk reports that the controversy around their relationship is largely linked to Carter Efe’s 2022 viral hit ‘Machala’, a song created as a tribute to Wizkid out of admiration. The track gained massive attention online and significantly boosted his visibility in the entertainment space.

Despite the success of the song, Efe claimed that Wizkid did not publicly acknowledge the tribute or his effort in any official capacity, a situation he believes contributed to the strained perception of their relationship.

Speaking in the interview, he said: “My relationship with him? I love Wizkid. I won’t lie. I love Wizkid. I love his craft, man. But I have issues with his personality. I showed that guy love, he didn’t show me love. But I still love his music and style.”

He emphasised that his original intention behind ‘Machala’ was not driven by financial gain or fame but was purely a gesture of admiration for an artist he deeply respects. According to him, the project was a heartfelt expression rather than a commercial strategy.

The content creator’s remarks have since generated renewed discussions on social media about fan-artiste relationships, recognition in the creative industry, and expectations surrounding public acknowledgement of tribute works.
