Williams Uchemba declines comment on Alex Ekubo’s marital status, alleged children

Actor Williams Uchemba has declined to comment on the marital status and alleged children of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, insisting that such personal matters should only be addressed by the actor’s immediate family.

Speaking during a recent interview, Uchemba explained that he would rather respect Ekubo’s privacy and honour whatever decision the late actor made regarding his personal life while he was alive.

According to him, it would be inappropriate for friends or associates to publicly disclose information the deceased intentionally kept away from the public.

The actor stressed that if any clarification or official statement were to emerge concerning Ekubo’s private affairs, it should come directly from family members.

He noted that many public figures deliberately choose to separate their careers from their personal lives, and such choices should be respected even after death.

Uchemba’s remarks come amid growing conversations on social media surrounding Ekubo’s personal life, particularly claims suggesting that the late actor may have had children unknown to the public.

Reacting to the speculation, Uchemba maintained that he was not in a position to confirm or deny any rumours circulating online. He reiterated that his priority was to respect the wishes and memory of his late friend rather than contribute to public speculation.

“Though I do not think I am in the place to say because if Alex did want it like that. I think I would respect it. I would respect his will, and he wanted it that way,” he said during the interview.

He further added that some individuals intentionally choose to keep sensitive family matters away from public attention, especially in the entertainment industry where scrutiny from fans and the media can become overwhelming.

“If anything would come out from that, it would be his family. People have their decisions, some people would not want it out there or in the public. So, it is still best for his immediate family to say anything on it,” he added.

Ekubo’s family recently confirmed that the actor died at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after battling metastatic kidney cancer. The family also appealed for privacy as they continue to mourn the actor’s passing.

The death of the Nollywood star sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry, with colleagues, fans and public figures paying tribute to his contributions to Nigerian cinema.

Over the course of his career, Ekubo featured in more than 100 Nollywood productions and built a reputation as one of the industry’s most recognisable actors.

Several celebrities, including close friends and colleagues, have continued to share emotional messages in honour of the late actor, describing him as talented, cheerful and deeply committed to his craft.
