Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed as the head of youth mobilisation for the Accord Party’s campaign council in Osun State ahead of the August 2026 governorship election.
The move signals a major push to harness youth influence in the forthcoming political contest.
The appointment ties the music star directly into the re-election bid of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term under the Accord Party platform.
This follows his political realignment late last year, which reshaped the state’s emerging political dynamics.
Davido confirmed the development via his official X account on Tuesday. He revealed that the appointment came directly from Governor Ademola Adeleke, whom he described as both his uncle and the party’s flag bearer.
In his post, the singer expressed optimism about the campaign and the governor’s re-election bid. He stated that he had been appointed head of youth mobilisation for the campaign council and expressed support for what he described as a smooth campaign process.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in late 2025, has since repositioned himself within the Accord Party. The party has now become the platform for his second-term ambition.
Political arrangements within the party have reportedly placed him as the sole governorship candidate for the forthcoming election in Osun State. This development further consolidates his position ahead of the August 2026 polls.
Davido’s involvement, particularly in a formal campaign role, is seen as a strategic effort to deepen engagement with younger voters. Youth voters constitute a significant portion of the electorate in Osun State and across Nigeria.
The singer’s massive social media following and influence within the entertainment industry are expected to play a central role in grassroots mobilisation. His reach is viewed as a key asset in driving awareness for the campaign.
Davido’s influence across Africa’s entertainment landscape also positions him as a strong communication bridge between political actors and young citizens. Many of whom are often disengaged from traditional political messaging.
With the Accord Party now fully backing Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid, the campaign is expected to intensify in the coming months.
