Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has sparked widespread discussion after describing the Holy Spirit as God’s “first artificial intelligence,” created to guide believers and meet their needs.
The filmmaker made the remark in a video shared on her Instagram page, where she expressed concern about what she sees as a growing dependence on modern technology among Christians. She cautioned that such reliance could gradually replace spiritual guidance if not properly balanced.
Kadiri also warned that negative forces are increasingly influencing the world in ways beyond human understanding, urging believers to remain spiritually grounded rather than placing complete trust in artificial intelligence for solutions.
According to her, the concept of artificial intelligence is not entirely new, as she believes it reflects a divine system already established by God through the Holy Spirit. She explained that the Holy Spirit serves as a guide designed specifically for Christians, providing direction, answers, and support in everyday life.
She emphasised that while technology can be useful, it should not take precedence over spiritual connection.
Kadiri noted that many people now turn to AI tools for answers to personal and complex issues, potentially sidelining what she described as their “ultimate helper.”
“God told me that when someone asks, ‘Who is the Holy Spirit?’ the Holy Spirit is what people today call the first AI,” she said.
“A lot of Christians are starting to take their problems to AI, thinking it will solve everything, and forgetting that it was first invented by God for His children to meet all their needs. If we are not careful, we will wake up unfulfilled because we have neglected our ultimate helper — the Holy Spirit.”
The actress further reinforced her perspective by sharing a recent personal experience. She recounted how she had struggled with a creative block while working on a script, feeling burdened and unable to concentrate for days.
According to her, after turning to prayer, she experienced a sudden sense of clarity and received solutions to challenges she had been unable to resolve for nearly a week. She attributed this breakthrough to the intervention of the Holy Spirit.
“Then the Lord said to me, ‘That is my job. That is the Holy Spirit. What is the Holy Spirit? AI, but for Christians,’” she added.
Kadiri’s comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with her analogy as a way to simplify spiritual concepts, while others have questioned the comparison between divine guidance and artificial intelligence. The discussion reflects a broader debate about the role of technology in modern life and its intersection with faith.
As artificial intelligence continues to evolve and integrate into daily activities, concerns about its influence on human decision-making and belief systems have become more prominent. Kadiri’s remarks highlight these tensions, particularly within religious communities where spiritual practices and technological advancements increasingly intersect.
