Gospel singer and prominent Nollywood soundtrack vocalist, Onos Brisibi, has passed away at the age of 55 after a prolonged illness.
Brisibi, whose remarkable voice featured in classic Nollywood films such as Domitilla and Blood Money, died on March 23, 2026.
Her passing was publicly confirmed through an Instagram tribute by veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), who described her as a devout Christian and an exceptionally gifted singer whose music touched countless lives.
RMD recalled Brisibi as “more than family. She was love in human form,” highlighting her warmth, humour, and unwavering faith.
Brisibi rose to prominence through her soulful gospel music and her memorable contributions to Nollywood soundtracks. Her performances were celebrated for lifting spirits and drawing listeners closer to God, blending devotion with artistry in a way few could match.
In his tribute, RMD shared fond memories of their childhood and family bond, recounting playful interactions that revealed Brisibi’s joyful personality.
“Even through her illness, her laughter never faded,” he wrote, emphasising how her presence brought light and happiness to those around her.
He also highlighted her close relationship with her daughter, Sarah, her mother, and siblings, all of whom survive her along with a wide circle of friends and church members.
Brisibi’s contributions to gospel music and Nollywood extended far beyond her vocal talent. She was known for ministering through her music, offering hope and inspiration to fans across Nigeria and beyond. Her distinctive voice became synonymous with several beloved Nigerian films, earning her recognition as both a cultural and spiritual icon.
Many of her colleagues and fans described her as a source of light, with her ministry resonating deeply within the Christian community and among music enthusiasts alike.
RMD concluded his tribute by sharing his personal grief, stating, “I will miss you deeply, my sweet cousin. I love you. Always will. Rest in perfect peace, Onos. You were truly loved.”
Onos Brisibi’s passing marks a significant loss to the Nigerian music and film industries. Fans, colleagues, and admirers continue to celebrate her life, cherishing the joy, faith, and inspiration she brought into their lives through her music and ministry.
