Social media influencer and philanthropist Mitchell Mukoro, popularly known as King Mitchy, has publicly apologised after weeks of online controversy stemming from her clash with social commentator Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, Mitchy addressed Nigerians directly, admitting that her conduct during the heated online exchanges was inappropriate and expressing regret for disappointing her followers, particularly young girls who look up to her.
In the video, Mitchy acknowledged that she had reflected on her actions and was ready to take responsibility.
“I am prepared to be held accountable for my actions. Over the past few days, I have thought deeply about my behaviour, and I know that I was wrong, and I want to own up to it,” she said.
She also apologised specifically for a live video in which she appeared to ingest a substance believed to be hypo, describing her actions as reckless and irresponsible.
Mitchy extended her apologies to several individuals whose names were drawn into the dispute, including Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
“And my boss ST, I am so sorry. I know I apologised privately, but I disrespected you publicly, and for that, I want to apologise openly. I am truly sorry, sir. I want you to know that I will never take your support for granted,” she said.
She also addressed the monarch directly, kneeling in the video, and said, “I am very sorry for bringing your name into this, sir. I am deeply sorry, Daddy.”
King Mitchy further apologised to VeryDarkMan, acknowledging his efforts to advocate for a better Nigeria. She described him as working toward a positive cause and admitted she had misunderstood his activism.
“You are fighting for Nigerians, and we can make Nigeria a better place. I am sorry for confronting you in that way. I now better understand the kind of person you are and the work you are doing for a good cause. You need more supporters, not opposition. I am sorry, my brother,” she said.
The controversy began in late February when Mitchy announced that she had renovated a dilapidated school in Delta State within six days, presenting the project as proof that significant change could be achieved quickly with commitment.
Her posts were widely interpreted as a subtle critique of VeryDarkMan, who responded with videos accusing her of being used to boost the image of the Tinubu administration. He also alleged that both Mitchy and Seyi Tinubu threatened his life, which they have denied.
The dispute intensified after Mitchy shared what was described as a private chat with the Ooni of Ife, drawing public criticism for seemingly disrespecting the monarch.
Further alarm was raised when she appeared distressed in a live video, allegedly ingesting a substance thought to be bleach, prompting widespread concern among followers. Her management initially reported her death, which was later retracted, confirming she was alive and recovering.
Seyi Tinubu also refuted any claims linking him to the feud, clarifying that his interactions with Mitchy were limited to supporting her NGO work. He described the online conflict as a misrepresentation and criticised attempts to involve his name.
“Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal. Repeating falsehoods loudly does not transform them into truth,” he stated.
