Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has underlined the necessity of maintaining clear professional boundaries on film sets, particularly when shooting intimate scenes with female colleagues.
In a recent interview with BBC News Igbo, Arukwe explained that he always ensures there is a prior discussion with actresses about their comfort levels before filming such scenes, aiming to foster mutual understanding and respect, and to prevent any form of discomfort.
The actor, best known for his portrayal of Odogwu Paranran in Omoni Oboli’s ‘Love in Every Word’, said that these conversations are crucial in establishing limits and maintaining professionalism on set.
“I always discuss boundaries with any female colleague I’m asked to act with. I make sure we talk about what is acceptable before we start filming. I avoid touching areas that could make the actress or her partner uncomfortable. I am a married man,” he said, stressing that his approach ensures all parties feel respected while performing challenging roles.
Arukwe also addressed persistent rumours linking him romantically with colleagues, firmly denying any such claims. He stated that his interactions with fellow actors remain strictly professional and that his focus is on his craft and his marriage.
“The rumours about me and different women are not true. What people see in movies is just part of my work. The Odogwu character I played opened more doors for me. That role brought more attention to my career. Many people now recognise me because of that character,” he explained.
The actor’s clarification comes amid heightened attention on Nollywood professionals’ conduct during scenes involving physical closeness.
By highlighting the protocols he follows, Arukwe seeks to reassure both his colleagues and the public that consent, communication, and respect are central to his working practice.
Arukwe further emphasised that his marriage remains a priority, and he takes deliberate steps to separate his personal life from his professional obligations.
With Nollywood gaining increasing international visibility, actors’ conduct on set is under closer scrutiny, making clear communication about boundaries more important than ever.
Arukwe’s career trajectory continues to rise, with his role in ‘Love in Every Word’ cementing his reputation as a versatile actor capable of handling complex roles.
