Gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has cautioned married men engaging in extramarital relationships and young women who engage in such affairs, warning that the actions could result in grave consequences, including public humiliation.
The warning was issued in a video that has gained widespread attention online, where Bassey spoke to a congregation during a church gathering. In the footage, he criticised the growing incidence of married men deceiving young women into secret relationships, describing the behaviour as dangerous and morally wrong.
According to the cleric, men who lure young women into illicit relationships would face divine judgement, stressing that shame and exposure could follow such conduct. He added that such actions could be publicly revealed, including through social media platforms.
“You are a married man, and you go about deceiving young girls. Some even go as far as sleeping with them. I place a demand on the grace of God upon my life. If you try it this year, you won’t survive,” Bassey said in the video.
The singer further warned that men who take young women to hotels under false pretences could face dire consequences, stressing that lies and infidelity would not go unpunished.
“Your shame will not be forgotten; it will be on social media. You take a lady to a hotel, you lie. Meanwhile, you are married; you will not come out alive from that hotel,” he added.
Beyond married men, Bassey also directed stern warnings at young women who knowingly pursue relationships with married men. He attributed such behaviour to greed, materialism, and the desire for luxury items, cautioning that the consequences could be severe.
“If you like, take what I am saying jokingly. If you know in your heart that the man is married, but because of greed, attention, Brazilian wigs, hair, or a Louis Vuitton bag, if you try it, you won’t survive it,” he said.
Bassey emphasised that both parties involved in extramarital relationships share responsibility for the consequences, stressing that moral accountability applies equally to men and women.
The cleric, who is widely known for leading the popular Hallelujah Challenge prayer movement, has frequently spoken against social vices, insecurity and moral decay in the country. His comments have often generated widespread reactions online, drawing both support and criticism from different quarters.
Following the circulation of the video, social media users expressed mixed reactions, with some applauding Bassey for speaking boldly against infidelity, while others criticised the tone of his remarks, describing them as extreme.
Despite the reactions, Bassey maintained that his warning was aimed at discouraging immoral behaviour and protecting young women from exploitation by married men.
The gospel singer concluded by urging individuals to take responsibility for their actions, warning that secret relationships could attract lasting consequences, both spiritually and publicly.
