Online Submissions

Thank you for your interest in submitting to our online magazine. We are interested in stories from Nigeria and the diaspora, and do not charge submission fees.

We accept submissions for our online magazine three times a year, and our submission windows are as follows:

  • January 27th – March 20th
  • May 1st – May 31st
  • September 1st – September 30th


Prose and Drama

Short fiction, short nonfiction, and drama should be 1500 – 2000 words.


Essays

We are interested in creative essays on books, writing, literary criticism, music, films, art, culture, cinema, dance and other related issues. Such essays should be 1500-2000 words.


Interviews

For interviews (1500 – 2000 words), pitch us via: editorial@nairastories.com. In your pitch, tell us about whom you want to interview and the angle you want to approach the interview from.


Book review

Book review should be 800 – 1200 words. We only publish book reviews on fiction, nonfiction, children and young adult literature, drama, poetry, biography, memoirs, and textbooks. For more information on our book review guidelines, visit our FAQ page.


Film and Music Reviews

Film and music reviews should be 800 – 1200 words. We only publish reviews of films and music that are very recent and trendy.


Poetry

Poetry should be two poems with a maximum of 30 lines.


Artwork and Photography

Artwork and Photography should be a maximum of two artworks in a high-resolution JPEG format.

Take your time to explore the content of our print magazine to have an understanding of the kind of stories we publish before submitting our work.

We are only interested in original, unpublished stories. Stories that have appeared in any medium, print or online, are not welcome. We also do not accept simultaneous submissions.

Your story should be properly formatted and paginated. We recommend the following formatting style (1.5 line spacing, 12pt font size, Times New Roman font face, A4 paper size, and justified text).

We only accept Microsoft (MS) Word documents. The header of the document should contain your name and the title of your story. The first page of the document should contain the title of your story, the word count, and your full name.


Remuneration

We regret that we may not be able to pay our valuable contributors. But, in the meantime, we would ensure your work gets the readership it rightly deserves.


Contributors’ rights

Upon publication of your work by Naira Stories, you are giving Naira Stories the exclusive right to publish your work in any form and medium known now or that will exist in the future.

Also note that Naira Stories, its parent company, staff, or partners are not responsible for any copyright infringement of work submitted to Naira Stories.

All rights revert to the author upon publication. However, we request that Naira Stories be properly acknowledged as the original publisher if you choose to publish your work elsewhere.

Our online magazine submissions are made through our submission portal.
