Sophia Momodu urges fans to stop referring to her as Davido’s wife

Sophia Momodu, entrepreneur and mother of Nigerian music star Davido’s first child, has publicly asked fans and the public to stop calling her the singer’s wife, stressing the importance of respecting personal boundaries and current realities.

In a candid video statement shared on Snapchat, Momodu expressed her frustration over persistent references to her as Davido’s spouse, despite their past relationship ending several years ago.

She highlighted that such remarks disregard her privacy and overshadow her own identity, reducing her to a former connection rather than recognising her personal achievements and present life.

“I once met a content creator who addressed me as ‘Mama Imade, OBO’s wife’ upon seeing me. I was shocked because I am not his wife,” Momodu said, recalling a recent encounter that underscored the issue.

She emphasised that the public should respect both her and Davido’s current circumstances, especially considering that the singer has since married.

Momodu’s plea comes amid ongoing public interest in her life due to her connection with one of Africa’s most prominent music artists.

While the spotlight has often followed her because of her past relationship, Momodu clarified that she has long moved on and is focused on her own pursuits, including entrepreneurship and raising her child.

The entrepreneur urged fans to appreciate personal boundaries and respect the privacy of all parties involved.

“Stop referring to me as Davido’s wife. Let’s respect people’s marriages and rules. If people have moved on, allow them to move on in peace. Allow me to move on in peace. Everyone is happy and doing what they are supposed to do,” she said.

Despite not being a public figure in the traditional sense, Momodu has had to contend with a persistent narrative linking her identity to her past association with a high-profile personality.

Her message also resonates with a larger societal conversation about respect, personal identity, and the ethics of celebrity culture. In an era where social media amplifies public commentary, the entrepreneur’s request serves as a reminder of the importance of recognising people for their own merits rather than defining them solely by former relationships.

Fans and the public have often expressed curiosity about her relationship with Davido and her role as the mother of his first child, Imade Adeleke. While Momodu has consistently maintained that she prioritises her child’s welfare and her own career, the persistent labelling as “Davido’s wife” has remained a recurring concern.

Her statement highlights the significance of separating public perception from personal reality, particularly in contexts where past relationships involve highly visible figures. In doing so, she reinforces the need for empathy, respect, and recognition of individual journeys beyond former associations.
