Dangote refinery cuts petrol price to ₦699 per Litre

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has once again reduced the gantry price of petrol, bringing the ex-depot rate down from ₦828 to ₦699 per litre.

The adjustment, effective from 11 December 2025, represents a reduction of ₦129 per litre about 15.58 per cent according to real-time market data from Petroleumprice.ng.

An official from the refinery, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the latest adjustment, which marks the 20th petrol price change announced by the refinery this year.

The latest reduction follows remarks made by the refinery’s Chairman, Aliko Dangote, after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu on 6 December. Dangote reiterated the company’s commitment to maintaining “reasonable and competitive” domestic fuel prices despite global market fluctuations and ongoing smuggling across Nigeria’s borders.

“Prices are going down. The reason why prices have to go down is that we have to also compete with imports,” Dangote said, noting that petrol in Nigeria remains about 55 per cent cheaper than in neighbouring countries.

He further emphasised that petroleum products, including diesel and petrol, will continue to be sold at fair prices, highlighting that the refinery is a long-term investment and not focused on rapid returns.

Despite a drop in smuggling, Dangote acknowledged that illegal cross-border sales of petrol remain a challenge, reinforcing the importance of competitive local prices.

The December adjustment is part of a broader pricing trend by Dangote Petroleum Refinery throughout 2025. Early in the year, the refinery reduced its ex-depot prices from approximately ₦950 per litre to ₦825 in February, followed by further reductions in March, April, and May. In November, prices were lowered to ₦828 per litre, demonstrating a sustained effort to ease costs for Nigerian motorists and remain competitive with imported fuel products.

The latest cut has prompted a ripple effect across several private depots, which have adjusted their ex-depot prices in response.

Petroleumprice.ng reported that Sigmund Depot lowered its rate by ₦4 to ₦824 per litre, Bulk Strategic by ₦3, and TechnoOil implemented one of the sharpest reductions with a ₦15 cut. Other depots, including A.A. Rano, NIPCO, and Aiteo, also made minor adjustments reflecting the new pricing benchmark set by Dangote.
