Popular Nollywood star, Mercy Johnson, has reacted to the alleged arrest and detention of Sammy West, elder brother to actress Regina Daniels, said to have been allegedly ordered by her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
Reports indicate that Sammy West was picked up in Lagos on Sunday, barely a week after Regina accused her husband of domestic violence and announced that she had filed for divorce.
Family sources claimed Sammy West was picked up on the orders of Nwoko and flown to Abuja over alleged interference in the couple’s ongoing marital dispute.
Regina, in a post on her verified Instagram page, demanded to know her brother’s whereabouts, alleging that he had been detained for days without access to his family or legal counsel.
“Where is my brother? He did nothing wrong. This is intimidation,” she wrote.
Reacting to the development, Mercy Johnson, who is widely regarded as Regina’s godmother and mentor in the film industry, condemned the arrest, describing it as “the worst form of injustice.”
In a statement posted on her verified Instagram page, the actress expressed concern over the handling of the case by law enforcement authorities.
She wrote: “The worst form of injustice is pretended justice. A child was arrested, and no one has been allowed to see him for two days. He was flown from Lagos to Abuja and is allegedly being taken to court straight from the airport. How did we get here? Nigeria… wow.”
Once admired for its elegance and luxury, the marriage between Regina Daniels and Senator Nwoko has in recent months become clouded by allegations of abuse and infidelity, sparking public debate and concern.
The couple, who married in 2019 despite their significant age gap, share two sons together. However, signs of strain became evident earlier this year when the actress deactivated her Instagram account amid rumours that her husband had taken another wife.
She later returned online, appearing in a video where she spoke of enduring pain and silence in her marriage.
In October, Regina publicly confirmed that she had left her husband. In a viral video, she accused Nwoko of domestic violence and emotional abuse, declaring that her family was in turmoil and that she would “fight for her children and her peace.”
Senator Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, denied the allegations through his media aides. He accused Regina of substance abuse, violent outbursts, and property damage within his home, claiming that he had endured her excesses for too long and was only seeking to protect his children.
