Nathaniel Bassey speaks on wife’s five miscarriages

Renowned gospel singer and convener of the Hallelujah Challenge, Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, has revealed that his wife, Sarah, suffered five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, while he led the globally followed worship programme.

The revelation came during a live session of the ongoing October 2025 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, an annual month-long virtual praise and worship session that has drawn millions of participants across continents since its debut in 2017.

According to Bassey, the difficult experience tested his faith and ministry in ways he never expected. He recalled that there were moments when he would leave the hospital where his wife was admitted to lead online worship, only to return to continue attending to her bedside.

He said his wife endured five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy that nearly cost her life, yet he continued to minister to thousands every night.

“My wife will have to forgive me. Do you know there were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage, and nobody knew? I would still come online to praise and dance,” Bassey said.

He added, “A few years ago, she was in the hospital with an ectopic pregnancy. I would leave, lead praise and worship online, then return to the hospital, and the nurses attending to her would tell me, ‘It was powerful tonight.’ Not one, not two, not three or four pregnancies, but five.”

Bassey, who has led the Challenge for eight years, said his family’s experience proved that even ministers are not exempt from life’s trials. He urged believers not to lose hope but to trust in God’s timing and promises.

“So when people say, ‘Where is God?’ I say, I understand. God is faithful. One of the words He gave us was, ‘Don’t give up on God.’ Faith is not about avoiding challenges; it is about trusting Him through them,” he said.

The couple, married since 2013, are now blessed with two children, a son and a daughter, whom Bassey described as living proof of God’s mercy.

As the October 2025 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge continues, Bassey reaffirmed his belief that worship and unwavering faith remain powerful responses to adversity.
