President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate construction of two new hostels for the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, alongside a strategic road project linking the Body of Benchers Secretariat in Jabi District with Nile University, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to a statement by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, the president instructed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to execute both projects under emergency provisions to ensure timely delivery.
The hostel initiative will include two purpose-built facilities, each accommodating 300 students. One block will serve female students, while the other will house male students. The move aims to address longstanding accommodation challenges at the Abuja campus of the Nigerian Law School, which have forced students to seek off-campus housing in recent years due to insufficient on-campus facilities.
“The female and male hostels, each with a capacity of 300 occupants, will significantly improve residential facilities for Law School students in Abuja,” the statement said.
Beyond accommodation, President Tinubu has also approved the construction of a road connecting the Body of Benchers Secretariat to Nile University.
This corridor, which leads to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters, has historically experienced heavy traffic congestion.
The new road is expected to provide smoother access to the secretariat and ease traffic along the busy route, benefiting both legal professionals and students.
The announcement follows years of concerns over inadequate student housing and congested access roads in the Federal Capital Territory.
Previous reports and student feedback have highlighted the need for improved infrastructure at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, and for better connectivity between legal institutions in the city.
Olayinka emphasised that both projects would be executed with urgency, reflecting the presidency’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and urban mobility in the FCT.
The twin initiatives form part of broader efforts by the Tinubu administration to upgrade facilities in key educational and professional institutions across the Federal Capital Territory. The construction of the hostels and the new access road is expected to significantly improve student welfare, reduce travel time, and provide safer, more convenient routes for the legal community.
The development is welcomed by students and stakeholders who have long advocated for improved residential and transport infrastructure in the nation’s capital.
