Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham

Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham quash feud rumours with public display of unity

Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham have dismissed long-standing rumours of a feud, following their warm public interaction at a Lagos movie premiere.

The award-winning actresses were recently spotted engaging in a friendly conversation at the premiere of Wunmi Toriola and skit maker Kiekie’s latest film.

A viral video from the event showed Akindele dancing before pausing to chat with Abraham. Skit maker Kiekie later teased the duo and joined them on the dance floor.

For years, speculation of rivalry between the actresses has circulated in Nollywood circles, with fans suggesting competition for industry dominance as the root of the alleged discord.

Social media debates regularly pitted the pair against each other, comparing box office earnings and influence.

The tension appeared to ease in July 2025, when Abraham openly commended Akindele on Instagram, calling her “hot.” Akindele playfully replied, describing Abraham as a “troublemaker” while expressing appreciation.

The lighthearted exchange was widely reported as the first clear sign that the supposed feud was over.

Earlier, Abraham had penned a heartfelt note to celebrate Akindele, admitting that while fan-driven pressure once escalated into a heated exchange between them, there had never been genuine hostility.

She explained that external comparisons and fan rivalry had contributed more to the rumours than any real issues between them.

These public clarifications were significant because the alleged rift had been a recurring talking point in Nollywood for years, with speculation suggesting it stemmed from competition over cinema dominance and blockbuster successes.

Both actresses, however, consistently maintained that they respected each other as colleagues.

The latest public appearance together seems to have finally put the matter to rest. Fans have since reacted positively to the viral clip, with many expressing relief and joy at seeing the two industry heavyweights share warm moments.

One fan wrote, “My belle dey sweet me, joy won finish me. I love them both together. Make them give us movie back-to-back.”

Another added, “Fans isonu, I hope you’re all still awake. There’s peace of mind in unity.”

Industry watchers note that the renewed camaraderie between Akindele and Abraham could pave the way for future collaborations, a move that would excite cinema audiences given both women’s status as Nollywood’s biggest box office earners.

With this public reconciliation, the actresses have not only silenced critics but also sent a clear message of unity to their fan bases, drawing a curtain on years of speculation.
