Nollywood actress, Uche Ogbodo

I did butt lift surgery for my mental health, not for anyone —Actress Uche Ogbodo

Nollywood actress, Uche Ogbodo, has disclosed that her decision to undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery was motivated by her struggles with body image and the need to safeguard her mental health.

Speaking in a recent interview, the mother of three revealed that her physique changed drastically after childbirth, leaving her dissatisfied with her appearance.

She explained that the surgery was a personal choice aimed at restoring her confidence and emotional well-being, rather than an attempt to please anyone else.

According to Ogbodo, she had always been naturally busty but never had the popularly admired hourglass figure. She noted that giving birth through caesarean sections on three occasions altered her body further, making it difficult to maintain the shape she once desired.

“I didn’t like what I saw when I looked at myself after my third child. I felt I owed it to myself to be happy and confident. The surgery wasn’t for anyone else but for me, for my mental health, to feel good, okay, and enough. I am enough competition for myself,” she said.

The actress emphasised that her decision was not about vanity but self-acceptance, adding that her openness was deliberate. She criticised celebrities who secretly undergo procedures yet deny them, arguing that such attitudes mislead fans who look up to them.

“In this country, people, especially celebrities, are often not honest. You’re a role model, yet you lie to those who genuinely love you. Many undergo procedures, disappear, and then return with new bodies without admitting they worked on themselves. Why hide it when you can inspire other women with your story?” she asked.

Ogbodo said she wanted her transparency to serve as encouragement to women struggling with low self-esteem, showing that it is possible to make decisions that improve their happiness.

She also acknowledged the risks involved in surgery but maintained she felt safe in the hands of her doctors.

“There’s danger in everything. There’s danger in having malaria. But I knew there was nothing to be afraid of because I was in the right hands,” she remarked.

The actress further revealed that her husband supported her decision, recognising the struggles she faced with her body image after childbirth and the need to feel confident again.

Ogbodo’s candid revelation comes after months of public debates on cosmetic surgery among celebrities.

Singer Omah Lay recently dismissed BBL as “old-fashioned and unattractive,” while American model Amber Rose admitted she had removed hers. International pop star Ariana Grande also declared she would never undergo the procedure.

Within Nigeria, Ogbodo herself has been vocal on other issues in the industry. She previously trended after clashing with May Edochie’s supporters, describing them as witches, and also made headlines for defending Nollywood producer Adanma Luke over the circumstances surrounding actor Junior Pope’s death.

Her latest disclosure adds another layer to her public profile, placing her at the centre of ongoing conversations about beauty standards, motherhood, and the pressures faced by celebrities.

For Ogbodo, however, BBL surgery decision remains a personal one rooted in honesty, confidence, and mental health.
