Nigerian singer and songwriter, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, better known by his stage name Spyro, has announced his engagement to his partner, Janet Atom, in a heartfelt revelation that has since flooded social media with congratulatory messages.
Crooner shared the news on Friday through his Instagram account, accompanied by romantic photographs from his proposal.
Spyro, who rose to fame in 2022 with his chart-topping hit, disclosed intimate details of his love journey while celebrating the new chapter in his life.
The singer revealed that he met Janet in a Lagos club in 2024 while working. According to him, the chance encounter marked a turning point in his life.
“On the 30th of March 2024, my world paused as I found love in an unexpected place. At exactly 2:48 a.m., I met the answer to my prayers in a Lagos club while at work, and from then till now I have lived every single day a very happy man,” he wrote.
He further expressed his gratitude and joy after Janet accepted his proposal. “Thank you for saying YES, my sweet J. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you,” Spyro captioned the photos, showing off his fiancée’s sparkling engagement ring.
Janet, popularly known by her professional name Beatzby_Nj, is a Lagos-based make-up artist and entrepreneur. Her relationship with Spyro had largely been kept private until now, with the engagement marking their first major public declaration as a couple.
The announcement follows a series of public revelations Spyro has made about his personal life over the past year. In early 2024, the singer admitted that he had embraced celibacy, explaining that he felt spiritually troubled after engaging in fornication.
He also openly shared his regrets about not finding love before stardom, stating that fame made it difficult to know whether someone truly loved him for who he was or for his celebrity status.
The 27-year-old further disclosed that he once bought an engagement ring and planned to propose to a former girlfriend, but the relationship collapsed after a misunderstanding involving a female friend. That heartbreak, he revealed, left a lasting impression on how he approached relationships.
