Nollywood actress Peju Ogunmola and her husband — comic actor Sunday Omobolanle, popularly known as Papi Luwe — are in mourning following the death of their only child, Ayomikun Oluwasinaayomi, also known as Shina.
The death occurred on Tuesday while the 56-year-old actress was reportedly on a movie set.
Confirming the death of the young man, filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi wrote in a Facebook post: “Peju Ogunmola loses 24-year-old son. Her only child. Please, remember her in prayers.”
The heartbreaking news was also widely reported across the entertainment industry, with popular actor Odunlade Adekola among the first to publicly mourn. His tribute prompted an outpouring of condolences from colleagues and fans who described the loss as devastating.
Actress Biola Adebayo wrote on Instagram: “This is a big loss. This is devastating and heartbreaking. This is tragic. May God Almighty comfort Mummy Peju Ogunmola, who just lost her only child.”
Actor Femi Adebayo described the death as “one too heavy for words,” adding, “Life has written a line too heavy for the stage. Today, we mourn with our dear elder, a thespian whose heart now carries the weight no mother should bear.”
Other stars, including Muyiwa Ademola, Kunle Afod, Ibrahim Yekini (Itele D Icon), Adedimeji Lateef, and Ibrahim Chatta, also expressed their condolences, noting that no words could capture the depth of the grief.
The actress’s son, who recently completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, was not only known as the son of two of Nollywood’s respected veterans but was also carving out his own path as a musician.
In February, Ogunmola celebrated the release of his single ‘Abena’ on her Instagram page, encouraging fans to support his career.
Official details about the cause of death have not been disclosed, and the family is yet to announce funeral arrangements.
As condolences continue to pour in, colleagues and fans have described Shina’s death as an irreplaceable loss not only to his family but also to the Nollywood community that has long admired the Ogunmola-Omobolanle legacy.
