‘Suffering Misunderstoods’: A subtle call to slow down and feel for others

I wrote ‘Suffering Misunderstoods’ from a place of empathy for those who society doesn’t like to see, for their stories that are buried beneath their outward expressions of frustration with the system they found themselves in.

The story gives us a glimpse into the by-chance intersected lives of Ofonime, a NEPA official, and Mama Bomboy, a tipsy mother, and their paragons of disdain.

In ‘Suffering Misunderstoods’ we see their lives from another angle, we get an opportunity to understand them and their sorrows, and we get a chance to not hate them.

This story is a call to look deeper. Above all, I believe it is a nudge to slow down and feel for others.

It is a beautiful feeling to be published in the maiden edition of Naira Stories. I’m excited and honoured to be selected to lend my voice to this novel literary chorus.

I understand that Naira Stories is a huge project with a vision that will touch diverse corners of Nigeria and Africa.
