First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu

2027: Nigerian first lady says Tinubu will deliver greater prosperity, stronger economy in second term

Nigerian First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will deliver greater prosperity, stronger economic growth and improved security if re-elected in the 2027 general elections.

The first lady made the declaration on Saturday at the North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network grand rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where she urged supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise voters across the region for her husband and other party candidates.

Addressing thousands of APC supporters from the six North-Central states and the Federal Capital Territory, the first lady said the administration’s economic reforms were beginning to produce positive results.

She cited relative stability in the foreign exchange market, renewed investor interest, and increased infrastructure development as signs that Nigeria was moving towards economic recovery and prosperity.

Mrs Tinubu described President Tinubu as a courageous leader committed to national unity, security and economic transformation, arguing that his administration needed another term to consolidate its policies and address longstanding challenges.

The First Lady linked her husband’s second-term agenda to his 66th Independence Day message, titled ‘From Reforms to Prosperity’, which she said reflected a shift towards improving the economic conditions of Nigerians after a difficult period of government adjustments.

She maintained that the country was gradually experiencing the benefits of the reforms, particularly through developments in the foreign exchange market and the return of investors. She also commended governors for their infrastructure projects, saying development efforts were visible across different parts of the country.

“Foreign exchange is going down, and investors are coming back to Nigeria. Our farmers too, you can see all our governors here, they are doing infrastructural development like no other time before,” she said.

Beyond the economy, Mrs Tinubu highlighted government interventions aimed at improving food security, nutrition, education and social protection, particularly for vulnerable groups.

She disclosed that a food bank programme had recently been completed to support pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and children experiencing malnutrition.

According to her, the initiative was designed to provide more nutritious food to mothers and children while helping malnourished children receive food and treatment to support healthy growth.

“As you see now, we have just finished the food bank programme, where we are helping every child and mothers who are pregnant and also breastfeeding,” she said.

The first lady also pointed to educational support for young Nigerians, noting that students were benefiting from increased funding interventions under the administration. She did not provide further details about the specific programmes or the number of beneficiaries.

Mrs Tinubu urged APC members and political leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation in their respective states and communities ahead of the 2027 elections. She said voters should be informed about the administration’s reform agenda and what the government hopes to achieve if returned to office.

“One thing I want to say is that as we all go back to our various states, tell everyone that Mr President Bola Tinubu is a leader who is very bold,” she said.

She subsequently called on party supporters to vote for the President, Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC candidates across different levels of government, presenting continuity as central to the party’s campaign message.

“Therefore, vote for continuity, vote for capacity, vote for prosperity, vote for the re-election of Mr President and all the candidates of APC from top to bottom,” she appealed.

The rally was attended by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda; Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; as well as governors and other party leaders from the North-Central region.

Other speakers endorsed the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, urging party members to sustain community-level engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
