Print Submissions

What is your story?

Naira Stories longs for stories that encapsulate human experience, and yet have not been told. This is the right place to tell it.

The print version of the magazine is published triannually in the following order: fiction, first issue of the year; creative nonfiction, second issue of the year; and memoir, third and last issue of the year.

We are interested in stories from Nigeria and the diaspora, and do not charge a submission fee.

Our print magazine submission windows are as follows:

  • Fiction submission window: September 1st – October 31st. Publication date: January.
  • Creative nonfiction submission window: January 20th – March 20th. Publication date: May.
  • Memoir submission window: May 1st – June 30th. Publication date: September.

Fiction and creative nonfiction should be 4000 – 6000 words. Memoirs should be 2000 – 2500 words. Anything outside these word limits would be disregarded.

Take your time to explore the content of our print magazine to have an understanding of the kind of stories we publish before submitting our work.

We are only interested in original, unpublished stories. Stories that have appeared in any medium, print or online, are not welcome. We also do not accept simultaneous submissions.

Your story should be properly formatted and paginated. We recommend the following formatting style (1.5 line spacing, l2pt font size, Times New Roman font face, A4 paper size, and justified text).

We only accept Microsoft (MS) Word documents. The header of the document should contain your name and the title of your story. The first page of the document should contain the title of your story, the word count, and your full name. Contributors whose stories are published in the print magazine are paid N25,000, plus two complimentary copies of the magazine.
